Sambalpur: In an interesting incident, a bride called off her wedding after the groom showed up to the wedding venue drunk in Gobardhan Badmal village under Jujumura block in Sambalpur district.
The incident which took place last Sunday sparked tension in the village for quite some time but later the matter was mutually settled between the members of both the bride and groom’s families.
As per the report, the family members of one Subhadra Bhue had fixed her marriage with one Surendra Nayak of Gelabeda village a few days back. While the marriage was about take place at the bride’s house in the village a day before yesterday, the groom arrived in a procession and climbed the stage in a drunken state.
“The groom was so drunk that he could not keep his bearing at the wedding and even failed to stand properly. Later, he used foul language to the guests. This is when our daughter decided to call off the wedding,” informed the bride’s father.
According to the report, the groom’s side was made to return all the dowry the girl’s family had spent following the cancellation of the scheduled marriage and then allowed to leave the village.
