Bhubaneswar: Thousands of ‘Bol Bam’ devotees or ‘kanwariyas’  today thronged different Shiva temples across Odisha on the  occasion of second Monday of holy month of Shravan.

The Bol bum devotees, attired with Saffron dresses, were seen in long queue in front of Shiva shrines to pour water and offer prayers. However, they have shown more enthusiasm by chanting “BOL BAM! BOL BAM! “, “Bol Bam, Har Har Bam” during their long wait to reach temples.

The devotees- young and old, man and woman-walk miles barefooted to bring pure water from the rivers and pour on Lord Shiva.

It is believed that worshiping Lord Shiva during Shravan month is more powerful than worshiping during normal days. Each day of Shravan is considered as very devout and special prayers and rituals are performed at Lord Shiva Temples across the nation.

Security arrangements were made at major Lord Shiva temples in the state including the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, Dhabaleswar in Cuttack, Kapilash in Dhenkanal, Lokanath Temple in Puri on this occasion.
