Body Of Mountaineer Kalpana Dash Retrieved

Bhubaneswar: The body of ace Odia woman mountaineer Kalpana Dash (52) who died during an expedition to Mt Everest on Thursday has been brought to the base camp, sports and youth services department said today.

“The search and rescue team of Sherpas were successful in tracing and bringing back the mortal remains of the mountaineer to base camp- 4, today. The body will be flown to Kathmandu following completion of formalities at base camp, Lukla on Wednesday. State Government is confident that it will be successful in its mission to get the body of Dash back to her state,” said an official.

Dash, who was having a number of laurels to her name was a part of a three-member women mountaineers’ team which scaled the up to the summit of Mt Everest but she succumbed due to sickness while descending from the peak.

Earlier in the day, Odisha Government has paid tribute to the mountaineer by displaying the kit she had used during her first expedition to Mt. Everest in 2008. Dash had donated the outfit and other equipment during the foundation day celebration of the museum in 2017.
