Kendrapara: As many as five fishermen had a narrow escape after their boat overturned in the sea near Barunei river mouth in Mahakalpada early this morning. The mishap took place at around 2 AM after a trawler hit the boat while the fishermen were fishing.
The fishermen missing soon after the mishap, were rescued by four other trawlers which rushed to the spot after getting information about the mishap on VHF radio sets.
“A trawler without any light or symbol came and hit our boat all of a sudden at around 2 AM today. Our boat was completely damaged due to the accident. We cried for help and were trying to swim to the shore of the sea. However, others came and rescued us,” said Pravas Singh, one of the rescued fishermen.
Though the exact cause of the collision between the two boats is yet to be known, poor visibility due to dense fog is assumed to be the reason behind the mishap.
