BMC To Rope In SHGs For Managing Micro Composting Centres In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to rope in women Self Help Groups (SHGs) to manage the Micro Composting Centres (MCC) in the state capital.

There are 43 micro composting centres awarded under the project where 10 of those have been completed layout process. The centres after its completion will be a community managed centre for particular ward.

“It has been planned to engage women SHGs to support in day today activities like sensitisation to community members, participation in proposed 10 material recovery units on payment basis.  As per the plan one SHG will be attached to each MCC. Four of its members will be Swachh Sathi and will be paid Rs. 4000 per month through their SHGs,” said a BMC official.

The official further said that as many as 98 Swachh Sathis have been identified and their rudimentary orientation by BMC and GIZ (German International Cooperation) has been planned to be over by the end of this month.
