BMC Starts Crackdown On Polythene In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Enforcement squads of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today seized polyethene weighing around 75 kg from various markets in the state capital. The civic body on Thursday has constituted two enforcement squads to implement plastic/polythene enforcement in the city.

BMC officials said that the areas which were raided by the squads included Rajmahal, Unit I Market, Master Canteen Square, Rupali Square, Gopabandhu Square, CRP Square and Fire Station Square. BMC officials said that the seized polythene was finally deposited in a room at Yatri Nivas on Cuttack Road.

“Officials of State Pollution Control Board, Commissionerate Police, and Forest Department were also part of the squads. The squads will continue to crackdown on polythene in the city,” said a BMC official.     

The squads also imposed penalty under the “Plastic Waste Management Rule 2016”. The state government had earlier announced to ban plastic and polythene in the state from October 2 last year on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
