Bhubaneswar: Chaotic situation prevailed at busy Jaydev Vihar Square in the capital city Bhubaneswar today following a road blockade by contractual sanitation workers of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the morning.
Traffic flow came to a grinding halt along Airport-Nandankanan road for almost an hour due to the protests by the workers who also burnt tyres and resorted to sloganeering for the immediate payment of their pending salary.
The situation turned also later after the protestors formed a human chain and a police officer pulled out his service revolver to disperse the crowd. The incident sparked tension at the spot leaving the onlookers in a state of fear.
Normalcy was restored on the route after police pacified the mob later in the morning.
