BMC raids to crack down on Single Use Plastic in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday conducted raids in Damana area of the State Capital City to crack down on Single Use Plastic.

The BMC enforcement team which included officials from the Central and North Zone conducted inspections from Nalco Chhak to Damana Bazar with the help of the local police.

The team members made the vendors aware on Single Use Plastic and the regulation in 2021. About 21 vendors were covered on the day.

About 2.5 quintals of polythene and single use plastic items were seized, out of which 1.00 quintal is the polythene carry bags. They also collected a fine of Rs 1,800 from a vendor.

“Intensive campaign will be carried out to aware people and vendors. Zone-wise enforcement will also be done to check the items for a clean and green Bhubaneswar,” said Suvendu Kumar Sahoo, Deputy Commissioner of Sanitation. He urged for community cooperation to make the drive success in the smart city.
