BMC issues guidelines for Ganesh Puja celebration in Bhubaneswar, No public darshan allowed

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday issued guidelines for observance of Ganesh Puja scheduled to be held on September 10.

For the containment of spread of COVID-19, the BMC order states that all Mandaps must adhere to the following guidelines during the Puja.

Congregation on the occasion of Ganesh Puja shall not be allowed in the public within BMC jurisdiction. The Puja Committee can conduct Ganesh Puja in the mandaps and pandals by adopting Covid-19 protocols such as social distancing, wearing masks, proper sanitisation for which they have to obtain permission from the officer duly authorized by the Commissioner of police, Bhubaneswar.

The Puja shall be conducted in indoor like condition only for observance of rituals without any public participation, pomp and grandeur.

The Mandaps/Pandals shall have to be covered on three sides and one side to be opened only for the purpose of use by the priest for the rituals. This fourth side should also be covered so as not to allow any public view/darshan of the idols by the devotees.

The idol size should be less than 4 ft.

The public address system shall not be used during Puja or any other time.

At any point of time there shall not more than 7 persons to be allowed including the organisers/priests/Kartas/support staff in the pandal/mandap . All those present shall have to follow strict Covid protocols like social distancing, wearing masks appropriately and sanitisation arrangement etc. The organizers shall ensure that only those who have been fully vaccinated are allowed for the observance of Puja.

There shall be no immersion procession by the organisers. The idol will be immersed in the artificial ponds to be created by BMC for this purpose.

In educational institute/coaching institute Ganesh puja will be observed by the following norms. The maximum number of participants will be 20 numbers and all will have to adhere to Covid-19 protocol. A social distance of 6 ft should be maintained by all of them inside the Puja room. No feast/Prasad sevan will be allowed on account of Puja. The head of the educational/coaching institution shall ensure that those above 18 years of age are fully vaccinated to be present in this occasion.
