BMC extends help for abandoned girl child

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today extended an immediate help of Rs 5000 under Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to seven-year-old Sheya Patra who was abandoned by her parents at Tarini Basti in VSS Nagar under Ward No. 17.

Sheya’s father Trilochan Patra (25) had left her mother while she was in the womb while her mother Mamata Patra (22) also deserted her in search of a better life outside the city.

BMC officials said that she is looked after her maternal grandparents Satrughan Swain (70) and Basanti Swain (55). BMC Commissioner Samarth Verma ordered immediate release of help under CMRF for the girl child after hearing her ordeal.

Verma also ordered a field inquiry and the same was carried out by BMC Zonal Office (North Zone). After the report was submitted, the Zonal Deputy Commissioner Pramod Kumar Prusty handed over the cheque of Rs 5000 to the maternal grandparents of Sheya in her presence at the office of the North Zone office of BMC.
