Bhubaneswar: Blistering heat wave swept across Odisha as mercury soars to or above 43 degree Celsius in 6 places of the State today.

According to the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the highest temperature of the day (44.2 degrees Celsius) was recorded in Sonepur. It was followed by Balangir (43.6) and Jharsuguda (43.5).

The three other places where the mercury soared to or above the 43-degree Celsius mark are Angul (43), Sambalpur (43.3) and Hirakud (43).

The weatherman also informed that a total of 13 places in the State witnessed the maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or above.
