Phulbani: Normal life was crippled in Kandhamal district on Friday due to 12-hour bandh call given by the district BJP Mahila Morcha protesting rising incidents of crime against women in the district.
The bandh was called following the recent rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl of Kotagarh area.
Vehicular traffic on the roads came to a grinding halt in the district due to the dawn-to-dusk bandh, while educational institutions and business establishments remained closed today.
The BJP Mahila Morcha members resorted to picketing and road blockade in different places in the district, commuters had a narrowing time reaching their destinations.
“Due to the gross apathy of the district administration, the safety of women is at stake. There is a rising incidence in the rape of the minor girl in the district,” president of Kandhamal District BJP Mahila Morcha, Archana Pradhan said.
