Bargarh: In an incident of pre-poll violence ahead of Bijepur by-poll in the district, a BJP leader was injured in the attack of a group of miscreants here last night.
The victim has been identified as Manoranjan Meher, a resident of Bijepur.
As per the report, Manoranjan who had been to Sohela in party work last afternoon was returning home on a bike along with a friend at around 8 am when the attack took place. A group of bike-borne miscreants stopped the duo near Kanapali Chhak and hacked Manoranjan with sharp weapons.
The victim sustained grievous injuries to his hand and chest in the attack and was rushed to Bijepur Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. He was later shifted to Bargarh DHH for better treatment.
Meanwhile, BJP workers in the district have protested the attack and demanded stringent action against the miscreants involved in it.
