Bhubaneswar: Protesting the alleged deprivation of healthcare to pregnant women in the state, the Mahila Morcha of Odisha BJP held a demonstration at Lower PMG here on Wednesday.
Holding placards and banners that read ‘Mahila ku Dhoka – Prasuti ku Lajja’ – meaning ‘Women cheated – pregnant Women shamed’- the women activists of the saffron party shouted slogans against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Health Minister Pratap Jena.
In the recent past, many pregnant women had to suffer at different places of the state after ambulance failed to reach their houses to take them to the hospital. Their kin carried them to the hospitals either on stretchers, tractors or on cloth swings tied to bamboo poles.
The failure of the emergency services had also, in certain cases, claimed the life of either the newborn or the woman and in some cases that of both.
Ms Kalinga
