BJP now calls on Governor over poll funding irregularities against Naveen Bhubaneswar: After knocking on the doors of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Income Tax (IT) department, State Election Commission (SEC) and Election Commission of India (ECI), the Odisha unit of BJP today sought the intervention of Odisha Governor Dr. SC Jamir in the charge of poll funding irregularities against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

A nine-member team of BJP leaders, led by State Vice-President Samir Mohanty, met the Governor over the alleged discrepancies in the poll expenses of the ruling BJD and its supremo Patnaik.

They submitted a memorandum to Jamir seeking his intervention in the issue.

Earlier, the saffron party had sought a thorough inquiry into the alleged discrepancies by the Income Tax Commissioner on Monday before handing over a memorandum to the SEC and demanding the scrapping of BJD supremo’s Assembly membership on Thursday. A delegation of BJP leaders, including party national spokesperson Sambit Patra and Kuchinda MLA Rabi Nayak, had also met the ECI the same day.

A BJD delegation had also approached the ED on Friday seeking a probe into the dubious poll funding charges against Patnaik.

On the other hand, BJD has termed the allegation an act of political vendetta and an attempt to tarnish the image of Naveen.

“BJP has leveled the allegation against BJD supremo and CM Naveen only to tranish his public image, which amounts to political vendetta. BJD will take legal action against some BJP leaders,” BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb has said.
