BJP observes 6-hour bandh in Nuapada demanding crop insurance money for farmers

Nuapada: Normal life came to a standstill in Nuapada district following a 6-hour bandh called by BJP pressing the government to fulfil the demand of farmers for disbursement of their crop insurance due.

The bandh which started since 7 AM in the morning and would continue till 1 PM witnessed deserted streets and markets across the district with shops and other business establishments resorting to complete closure.

While all government offices including banks remained shut in view of the bandh since the morning, schools, colleges and other educational institutions functioned normally as those were kept out of the purview of bandh.

BJP workers and supporters blocked NH-353 in the district and resorted to picketing. They also staged road blockades at several other places by burning tyres which disrupted the vehicular movement through various routes and hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on either sides of the roads.

BJP is demanding immediate disbursement of crop insurance money to farmers of the district, which is due under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana since 2016-17.
