Bhubaneswar: A day after BJP suffered shocking defeat in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar by-elections, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the saffron party is bouncing back.

“The BJP is sinking…sinking quite fast,” said Patnaik while answering to a media query on the by-polls at the Naveen Niwas here today.

Notably, the saffron party lost the by-election in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats in UP and Araria Lok Sabha and the Jahanabad Assembly seats in Bihar. While Samajwadi Party won in UP, the Rashtriya Janata Dal-led grand alliance became victorious in Bihar.

In Odisha too, BJP had lost the Bijepur by-election last month. BJD’s Rita Sahu, the widow of Congress MLA Subal Sahu, defeated her nearest rival Ashok Panigrahi of BJP with a huge margin of 41,933 votes.

In his reaction to posers on aligning with anti-BJP coalition, the CM said, “We haven’t thought of any alliance for the time being. There are no such thoughts.”
