BJP drills holes into govt claim on civic amenities

Bhubaneswar:  Pointing out gross deficiencies in the implementation of various plans and projects meant for urban citizens in the state, the Odisha state BJP today took a dig at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ahead of the Local Self Government Day on Thursday.

Sameer Mohanty, the state BJP Vice President, stated in a press conference on Wednesday that the government had been bluffing the people by announcing various schemes, but doing precious little on the implementation front.

Listing out some such government schemes, Mohanty said the disparity between the actual work done and the assurance given by the government is huge. Civic amenities are in a bad shape in the urban spaces of the state with absence of public toilets and open drains being matters of particular concern.

The delay in the completion of drainage and sewerage work in Cuttack by Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has only led to woes for the people. JICA has only provided the funds while the actual work is being done by the local bodies.

The JNNURM scheme of the Central government has been a failure in the implementation of effective road communication services in Bhubaneswar and Puri due to the lackadaisical attitude of the state government.

With civic amenities in a complete mess in the state, celebrating Local Self Government Day  is a mere farce, added Mohanty.
