BJP declares Dr. Sabita Suar as Mayor Candidate for Berhampur Municipal Corporation

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday named Dr. Sabita Suar as the party candidate for mayoral election to Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC).

It is to be noted here that Sanghamitra Dalei, the Ganjam district president of BJD Mahila Morcha, has been nominated as the Mayoral candidate of the State ruling party.

On the other hand, the State Unit of Congress party is yet to declare its Mayor candidate for Berhampur Municipal Corporation.

Tomorrow (March 7) is the last date to file the nomination paper for the election into 106 Urban Local Bodies across the State. The Mayor and Chairperson will be elected directly for the first time.

There are 168 wards in the three municipal corporations which will have 1,407 booths where 17,000 people will cast their votes.

As announced earlier by the State Election Commission (SEC), scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on March 9. While polling is scheduled to be held on March 24, counting of votes and declaration of results will be done on March 26.
