BJP banking on Amit Shah visit for giant leap in Odisha

Amit ShahBhubaneswar: After an impressive performance in the Panchayat polls in Odisha earlier this year, the Bharatiaya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to strengthen the party organisation at the grassroots level in the state ahead of the 2019 general elections.

In a major initiative to woo the voters in the state, BJP President Amit Shah will reach here tonight on a three-day tour of the state starting from Tuesday. He will attend ‘Mo Booth Sabuthu Majboot’ (My Booth is the Strongest) programme, an initiative to assess how far the people have benefited by various schemes introduced by the Modi Government during the last three years

On Tuesday, Shah is scheduled to visit Hugulapata Village under Kukudakhandi village in Ganjam district. He will meet five households of the village and discuss various welfare programmes implemented by the Modi Government. He will also hold a meeting with the grassroots level party workers to take stock of the party’s organisational strength in their area.

The party president is scheduled to have lunch in a Dalit family during his Odisha tour.

The next day, the saffron leader will visit Jajpur district to attend a ‘Mo Booth Sabuthu Majboot’ programme, and will interact with local party workers aiming to expand the party in the area. On Thursday, he will meet BJP zilla parishad (ZP) members, block presidents and vice-presidents in Khurda district, and discuss how to strengthen the party organisation in the state.

Later, the national leader will meet senior party leaders and hold discussion on strategies to expand the base of the party and win more MPs and enough MLAs to form a BJP government in the state.

Shah’s three-day Odisha tour comes on the backdrop of the party chief stating at an event in New Delhi that besides Gujarat, Karnataka and Himachal, his current focus is on Odisha.

The saffron party sees tremendous growth potential in this backward state for two reasons — anti-incumbency against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who has been in power for the last seventeen years, and the down-slide of the Congress, the main opposition party in the state till recently.
