BJD worker hurt in political violence in Balangir

Balangir: In a suspected poll related violence in the State, a BJD worker sustained injuries after being attacked by a group of rival political party members in Chandanbhati village in Balangir district last night.

The injured conch party worker has been identified as Prafulla Meher.

As per the report, Meher was returning from election campaigning along with a group of BJD workers in the night when another group from a rival political party intercepted them. After initial verbal duel members of both the groups started attacking each other in which the Meher sustained grievous injuries.

The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, following the incident.

The incident sparked tension in the village later and BJD’s Bolangir MLA candidate Arkesh Singh Deo and senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra made a visit to the spot as well as the police station.

Police force has been deployed in the village to prevent more untoward incidents from happening.
