BJD suspends 3 workers for placing party flag on martyr’s coffin

Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD)on Friday suspended its three workers in connection with the incident of party flag being placed on the coffin of martyr Ajit Kumar Sahoo.

The party workers who were placed under suspension are Binod  Kumar Majhi, Santosh Kumar Sahu and Gobardhan Das of Cuttack district.

The decision came after the opposition BJP in Odisha demanded an unconditional apology from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik soon after the picture of the mortal remains of the martyr being wrapped with BJD flag went viral on social media.

Naik Ajit Kumar Sahoo, of 44 Rashtriya Rifles, had sustained injuries in an IED blast carried out by militants at Arihal village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday. He succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Thousands of people gathered at the soldier’s native village of Badasuanla in Kamakhyanagar block of Dhenkanal district and bid him a tearful farewell. His mortal remains were consigned to flames with full state honours on Thursday.
