BJD stages protest over LPG price hike in Odisha Assembly premises

Bhubaneswar: The MLAs of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) staged a protest over Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) price hike in front of the Gandhi statue in Odisha Legislative Assembly premises on Thursday.

Reportedly, they have demanded immediate decrease of the prices as the consumers have been suffering.

They have criticized the Centre for increasing the price of LPG. “Centre has turned deaf ears despite frequent demands over reducing LPG price,” said BJD Chief Whip Pramila Mallik.

It is to be noted that the opposition party in Odisha called for a boycott of the assembly there was a huge ruckus in the house. The house functioned only for 15 seconds before it was adjourned. Opposition BJP and Congress members created a ruckus due to the much-hyped Mamita Meher murder case. The house has been adjourned till 4pm said reports.

The winter session of Odisha Assembly began on a stormy note on Wednesday also as opposition Congress legislators staged a ‘dharna’ before two entry points and locked another gate of the House over Mamita Meher murder case.

They were demanding justice to the victim and removal of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged close link with the prime accused in the case.

The protesting Congress members also locked another gate in a bid to prevent entry of Mishra into the House. After a while, the security staff broke down the lock and opened the gate. However, there was no disturbance in the entry of other ministers and members. The agitating MLAs later withdrew the ‘dharna’ and participated in the House proceedings.
