BJD president attacked in Balasore, sustained severe head injury

Balasore: Sushanta Panda, the BJD president of Mangalpur Gram Panchayat in Balasore district has been attacked Sunday night. As per the allegation, BJP Sarpanch Umakant Panda attacked him along with 15 to 20 associates in drunken condition when he was returning home after attending a patient at the hospital late at the night.

Pramod Panda, elder brother of Susanta said, “My brother was returning home after visiting medical condition of one Harekrushna Das, who was admitted at the headquarter hospital. At about 12 30 am yesterday 15 to 20 persons headed by BJP sarpanch Umakanta Panda attacked him near our home at Patna Raipur. The victim has sustained grave injury in his head and legs. You can see it. Now as the doctor has not come we don’t know whether he will be treated here or to be shifted to Cuttack for treatment.”

Sushanta was rushed to the district headquarter hospital where he is admitted now.

After the incident, irate supporters of the victim staged road blockade near Salabani demanding stern action against the accused persons. However, the road blockage was called off after the intervention of Police.

Dilip Nayak, ex Zilla Parishad member intimated that the main accused person has been arrested while his associates are yet to be nabbed.
