Puri: In a remarkable gesture, senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and Puri’s newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) Pinaki Misra has decided to donate his MP salary for the next five years after being elected to the Lok Sabha for another term.

Misra will contribute his entire salary of five years and daily allowance to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

The lawyer-turned-politician took to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the news. He wrote- “In view of the awful #CycloneFani tragedy and the misery of people of Puri, I have decided to give my entire MP salary and daily allowance to the CM relief fund for the next 5 years. Will request CM @Naveen_Odisha to use it for requests from my constituency.”

Noteworthy, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra lost to sitting BJD MP Pinaki Misra by a margin of 11,714 votes in a close fight from the Puri Lok Sabha seat.

Misra had an easy win in Puri in 2009 and 2014. In 1996, he won the seat on a Congress ticket.
