Dama RautBhubaneswar: Hours after BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik rejected all possibility of an alliance with Congress and claimed that his party is well capable of winning the poll on its own, senior party leader and state agriculture minister Damodar Rout has also reiterated it, today.

While talking to Kalinga TV and reacting to Chief Minister’s recent comment, Dama was of the opinion that the developmental initiatives of Naveen Patanik and BJD has touched the hearts of millions in the state and there is absolutely no need of entering into a coalition with any party. He said as the ruling party has worked for people, voters would definitely give it a mandate in the upcoming election.

“BJD’s number of seats is increasing with each election and it would continue in the upcoming election also due to the welfare measures taken by the state government,” Dama said.

Dama’s opinion holds significance as a few days ago he created a ripple among political sphere in the state by opining that BJD and Congress should come together in the state to keep BJP at bay, which he claimed is busy in communal politics.

However, soon after Dama’s reaction senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Narasingha Mishra insisted that an agreement between BJD and Congress is not at all possible.

“The East and West can never meet and I had earlier clarified on this during an event in the city. In fact there is no need of an alliance between no.1 and no.2 party in the state,” said Mishra.

Notably, while answering to the questions of Editorial Director of The New Indian Express, Prabhu Chawala at the valedictory day of Odisha Literary Festival in Bhubaneswar yesterday, Naveen said his party would always maintain equidistance from both BJP and Congress and would never enter into a direct or indirect coalition with both the parties.
