BJB College girl student’s death: Father demands strict action against seniors

Bhubaneswar: In a development regarding the Plus Three girl student, Ruchika Mohanty, who was found dead inside the girls’ hostel of Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar (BJB) College, her father Ganeswar Mohanty has demanded strict action against the three seniors.

Reportedly, an alleged handwritten note had been recovered which hinted that Ruchika has committed suicide as she was under depression due to her three seniors. She had allegedly written that she was being mentally harassed by the three senior girl students.

It has also been alleged that the hostel warden and the superintendent are also involved in the incident. The parents’ association has demanded an immediate investigation into the incident and for steps to be taken to make anti-ragging cells active in all educational institutions.

Adding to it, the police have been interrogating all the inmates of the hostel. The alleged suicide note has been sent to Handwriting Bureau by the police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, some activists of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Odisha unit staged a dharna in front of the official residence of Higher Education Minister Rohit Pujari against ragging in the college. They also demanded the immediate arrest of those three senior students.

Some activists were also picked up by the police after they started hurling tomatoes targeting the minister’s house.
