Angul: Tightening the noose around the looters, Angul Police busted a bike looters gang and seized 28 motorcycles from their possession by conducting a raid at Derajang project dam yesterday.
The raid was conducted post a police patrolling team got a tip-off on the presence of a robbers’ gang in the town late in the night. A police team led by IIC Ramesh Bisoyi rushed to the spot immediately and arrested 8 bike lifters into custody while hatching a plan for the next loot.
Police also seized one pistol, two bill hooks, six mobile phones and four bikes from the possession of the accused.
Later, basing on the information extracted from the held accused police conducted more raids in the town and arrested four more people and recovered 24 more looted motorcycles from their possession.
The gang was involved in a number of bike lifting cases in the district and further investigation is underway in the case, said police.
