Bhubaneswar: BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik convened a high-level meeting at Naveen Niwas here on Wednesday and took stock of the party’s organizational base in Bargarh district in the wake of Bijepur by-election.

Patnaik has directed to hold the second review meeting some days later.

“We drew strategies to strengthen the base of the party in Bargarh district, especially in Bijepur constituency so that we can win the by-election with a huge margin. Honourable Chief Minister and party supremo Naveen Patnaik has directed us to work hard on the grass-root level,” said Labour Minister Sushant Singh after attending the meeting.

Bargarh MLA, MP, district observer Praful Mallick were among others who were present during the review meeting.

The by-election in Bijepur constituency, which fell vacant following the untimely death of Congress MLA Subal Sahu on August 22, 2017, has become a major political agenda in the state politics with joining and leaving of leaders from BJP, Congress and BJD.

Though the date for the by-poll is yet to be announced, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha DN Gupta had on November 25 clarified that the Election Commission (EC) of India will take its decision on the by-election in the next few days.
