New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met the Election Commission of India (ECI) here on Tuesday and demanded a fair by-election in Bijepur of Odisha’s Bargarh district.

A delegation of the saffron party led by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan including party leaders Arun Singh, Bhupendra Yadav and Sambit Patra met the Election Commission and put forth its demand.

Coming down heavily on BJD government, Sambit Patra alleged that the Odisha government, without inviting tenders, is spending Rs 1500cr in Bijepur where the by-election will be held on February 24.

“Is the BJP making such baseless allegations because certain defeat is staring at them in Bijepur by-election?,” questioned BJD MP Prassana Acharya while reacting to Patra’s allegation.
