Bijepur By-Poll: Voting underway amid tight security

Bargarh: Voting for Bijepur Assembly Constituency by-poll kick started at around 8 AM in the morning today amid beefed up security arrangements and much enthusiasm among voters. While the casting of votes would continue till 5 PM in the afternoon long queues of voters were seen in front of the polling booths starting from the morning.

The election for the Bijepur Constituency which was necessitated after the demise of the incumbent MLA Subal Sahu in August last year would witness around 2,21,144 voters choosing their representative among 13 candidates who are on the run for the post.

Similarly, BJD’s Rita Sahu, BJP’s Ashok Panigrahi and Congress’ Pranaya Sahu are seen as the front runners for the Constituency and a big fight is expected this time.

While the voting is being conducted at 281 booths in the Constituency, at least 155 among them have been identified as sensitive.

While the voting remained largely peaceful reports of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines developed technical glitch in booth no- 88, 102, 141 in Bijepur block and booth no 20 in Barpali block.
