Bargarh: The much-awaited Bijepur by-poll counting of votes began amidst tight security this morning at 8 AM today with BJD keeping up with the trend and taking the early leads.
The counting process will be completed in 21 rounds for which 14 tables and one round table have been set up.
While BJD’s Rita Sahu started leading by 4788 votes after completion of first-round of counting the trend continued in the second round also. Post the first round BJD: 7005, BJP: 2217 & Congress: 317 was the tally.
A 3-tier security cover was installed and 10 platoons of the police force were deployed to ensure smooth conduct of vote counting this morning.
Voting for the Bijepur by-poll was held on Oct 21 with 78.96 % voters exercising their franchise.
There were five candidates in the fray for the by-poll with the main contest taking place between Rita Sahu of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Sanat Gartia of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
After 3rd round of counting. BJD: 22473 votes, BJP: 6000 votes & Congress: 815 votes.
After 4th round of counting. BJD: 31286 votes, BJP: 7921 votes, Congress: 1115 votes
After 5th round of counting, BJD candidate Rita Sahu leading by 28811 votes.
After 6th round of counting; BJD candidate Rita Sahu leading by 34,301 votes.
After 7th round of counting BJD’s Rita Sahu leading by 38,694 votes.
After 8th round of counting, BJD candidate Rita Sahu leading by 42,148 votes.
After 9th round of counting, BJD candidate Rita Sahu leading by 47,758 votes.
