Jagatsinghpur: When it comes to sweet Rasagola is first choice of many people. Besides, Rasagola is very famous in Odisha, as there is tradition of offering this sweet to Lord Jagannath. During Niladri Bije, a post Rathayatra ritual of Lord Jagannath, the Lord offers Rasagola to His consort Goddess Laxmi to please her, after which she allows the Lord to enter Srimandira, His abode. This tradition is being practised since long. Apart from this, whenever there is a good news, the host offers others Rasagola to convey his happiness. In nutshell, Rasagola is more or less the most used sweet dish in the State.

Some places of Odisha are popular for selling tasty Rasagolas. Pahala, in the outskirt of the capital city and Salepur Rasagola are very famous. However, recently another place has made it to the list of popular Rasagola places in Odisha. A shop in Jagatsinghpur has earned name and fame for selling the biggest Rasagolas.

The Baba Gorekhnath sweet shop owned by Prahllad Sahu in Tarapur under Raghunathpur block of Jagatsinghpur district has become the talk of the town these days as one can get big size Rasagolas here. Rasagola weighing as big as 2 kg, 1 kg, 500 gram and 250 gram are available here besides the normal sized sweet. As per reports, the seller is also exporting Rasagola to other countries from here.

It has been learnt that Rasagola at this shop is sent to Rourkela, Talcher, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Angul, Balasore and Dhenkanal of the State apart from local sell. When it comes to other states, this Jagatsinghpur Rasagolas are being sent to Gujarat, Delhi and Mumbai. The owner is also supplying Rasagola orders to Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Qatar, Doha and some other countries.

Normally, Rasagolas weighing 1 kg, 500 gram and 250 gram are available. However, if someone gives order, 2 kg weighted Rasagolas are made and supplied.

The price of 1 Rasagola weighing 1 kg is Rs 100. Similarly, the price of a 500 gram Rasagola is Rs 50. Besides, sweet of Rs. 30 and Rs 20 are also available here.

Prahllad Sahu and his two sons run the business here that had been started 18 years back. About 20 staff members have been employed in this shop. According to the owner, the sweets are prepared following a special recipe which makes it tasty. The sweets exported to other countries are packed in tin containers to keep the taste intact.

The shop has earned accolades in Rasagola festival. Besides Rasagola the shop also deals in other sweets including Chhenapodha, Chhenajhili, Rasabali and Golapjamun. The huge rasagola of Tarapur in Jagatsinghpur has earned fame far and wide. The owner and local residents have hoped more popularity of this huge Rasagolas.
