Bhubaneswar witnesses third-highest temperature in month of April since 2011, SRC issues advisory

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar today witnessed the third-highest temperature in the month of April since 2011 as it recorded a temperature of 43.3 degrees Celsius.

The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on its Twitter handle informed that the capital city boiled at 43.3 degrees Celsius temperature, which is the third-highest temperature of the month of April since 2011. Earlier on April 11 in 2016, Bhubaneswar had recorded the highest temperature in the month of April as it reported a temperature of 45.8 degrees Celsius.

Likewise, the second-highest temperature in the month of April was witnessed on April 16, 2019 when the mercury in the State Capital City had risen to 43.7 degree Celsius.

As many as 28 places of Odisha recorded temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or above. Similarly, 8 places sizzled at temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius or above today.

Meanwhile, the Office of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) issued an advisory based on the forecast of the weather department regarding the heatwave condition. The weatherman said that heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir from 8.30 AM of 25.04.2022 to 8.30 AM of 26.04.2022 and over the districts of Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir and Mayurbhanj from 8.30 AM of 26.04.2022 to 8.30 AM of 27.04.2022 and over the districts of Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Mayurbhanj and Kalahandi from 8.30 AM of 27.04.2022 to 8.30 AM of 29.04.2022.

The SRC has issued the following advisory:

  • Steps can be taken to circulate the warning message among the public.
  • Heat is tolerable for general public but slight health concern for vulnerable people (viz: infant, elderly and sick people).
  • Public may be advised to take precautionary measures for hot weather while going outside during noontime (around 11 AM-3.30 PM in these areas).
  • Situation may be closely monitored and action as deemed necessary be taken.
