Bhubaneswar sees series loots in 24 hours, DCP Prateek Singh Directs Strict Actions

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cadre IPS (2014) officer Prateek Singh, called for the first crime meeting after taking charge as the new DCP of Bhubaneswar.

Reportedly, the capital city has witnessed series loot cases in the last 24 hours. The meeting was held at DCP’s office today.

A chain snatching loot was attempted this afternoon near the Ghatikia area. The attempt was made when a woman was walking down the street wearing a gold chain.

However, the looters were unsuccessful following which she filed a complaint with Bharatpur police station.

In a similar incident, two miscreants snatched away a mobile phone of a girl on the evening of May 10 while she was returning from her office near Buddha Park in Niladri Vihar. They had come on an Activa scooter, pushed her, and snatched her mobile phone. Thereafter, the snatchers fled away from the spot.

Although the girl chased them but was unable to catch hold of them. She immediately lodged a complaint with the Chandrasekharpur police.

Prior to that, a similar loot case of mobile occurred in the capital city when one Mukesh Sarangi was brutally attacked while snatching the phone.

DCP Prateek Singh has alerted all police officers and property offence prevention and detection (POPD) teams in the city.

It is pertinent to mention that, Odisha Cadre IPS (2014) officer Prateek Singh took charge as the new DCP of Bhubaneswar on May 4. While answering to the questions of the media persons about his action plan for the growing number of street crimes in the Capital City, he said, “I will study and analyse the situation will hold discussion with the officers and will plan accordingly. We will follow the good practices that help to control the crimes.”

Notably, he was the DCP of Cuttack City before his transfer to Bhubaneswar.
