Bhubaneswar accounts for 40% of Covid cases in Odisha: Health Director

Bhubaneswar: The Department of Health has expressed concern over the rising Covid infection in the capital city. Health Director Bijay Mohapatra has informed that around 40% of daily Covid infections are reported from Bhubaneswar only.

Despite the fact that people are being warned not to crowd during the festive season, overcrowding at market areas has not reduced due to which there is a risk of rise in Covid infection again, he said.

Reportedly, the Covid infection has surged in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed that 159 new covid-19 positive cases has been registered in the capital city in 24 hours.

As the virus is uptrend in capital city, the concerned authorities have been asked to tighten the enforcement. Commissionerate Police has asked to sketch a plan in order to limit crowding to keep a check regarding how the public can be kept under control in public areas, especially in the festive season, added Health Director Mohapatra.

Meanhwile, night curfew shall be imposed from 8 PM to 5 AM from today till October 20 in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities. All religious festivals/ festivities/ functions shall be held/ celebrated/ observed as per the Covid guidelines.

Notably, the total cases in Bhubaneswar stands at 1, 14,626 while the total recovered cases are 1, 10,002. The total death cases recorded in the BMC is 1033. Active cases in the city are 3570. Odisha reported 448 Covid-19 positive cases including 59 in the 0-18 years age group taking the tally to 10,32,144 while six COVID infected patients have succumbed to the deadly virus in the State.
