Bharat Bandh enters day 2: Banking, transport partially hit in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The two-day Bharat Bandh has entered the second day on Tuesday. The strike has led to a partial disruption of banking and transport services on Monday.

Reportedly, the impact is likely to continue today also. The strike has been called by a group of trade unions to protest against Central government policies that are affecting the workers, farmers, and people.

The protestors staged strikes at various places which hit the railway and bus services. As a result, commuters were unable to reach their destinations.

The banks across the country have remained shut these days as the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) also decided to join the strike. The bank strike have opposed the Banking Laws Amendment Bill 2021. The strike is also called to oppose the Central government’s move to privatize public sector banks.

However, the petrol pumps across Odisha have remained open for two days (March 28 and 29) during Bharat Bandh except for the first half on Monday in view of picketing on the road.

It is pertinent to mention that, during the two days of nationwide Bharat Bandh in Odisha an ambulance was stuck at Jaydev Vihar in Bhubaneswar.

The protesters did not allow the ambulance which was carrying a patient due to picketing on the road. The driver of the ambulance also tried to convince them. However, the people involved in the protest did not allow them to move forward. As a result, the ambulance had to change its way to reach the concerned hospital.

Several questions were raised as all the essential and emergencies services were exempted from Bharat Bandh on March 28 and 29.
