Bharat Bandh: 2-day nationwide strike begins

Bhubaneswar: A joint forum of central trade unions has called for a 2-day nationwide strike on Monday and Tuesday (March 28 and March 29) to protest against Central government policies that are affecting the workers, farmers and people.

Reportedly, some essential services are likely to be impact. This includes banking services, electricity, transportation and railways.

The banks across the country will remain shut on these days as All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) has also decided to join the strike.

The bank strike will oppose the Banking Laws Amendment Bill 2021. The strike is also called to oppose the Central government’s move to privatise public sector banks.

Despite the threat of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), workers in departments like roadways, transport and electricity have also announced decision to join the nationwide strike.

It is pertinent to mention that the Rama Devi Women’s University (RDWU) in Bhubaneswar has postponed the scheduled exams in view of Bharat Bandh.
