Bhadrak Spurious liquor case: BJP & Congress join locals in demand of action

Bhadrak: After hooch tragedy claimed six lives, locals blocked roads in demand for the quick action and compensation for victims’ families from the state government on Tuesday. BJP and Congress workers came out in support of the protest.

Post the hooch tragedy on Tuesday, locals staged a roadblock for up to 10 hours at Pirahat. Their prime demands being compensation and action against the culprits. Both Congress and BJD supported the cause and have demanded Rs 25 lakh for each of the victims.

The opposition parties claimed that the incumbent government has failed to cap the sale of illicit liquor sale. They also alleged that the BJD government failed to stop the sale of liquor before 48 hours of commencement of elections in the state.

Congress workers staged a dharna in front of Pirahat police station with a demand for quick action. Meanwhile, BJP held a press conference demanding compensation for the hooch tragedy victims. Both the parties have given an ultimatum of 72 hours to the government, else the protests will be intensified.
