Bhadrak double murder-rape accused Gopinath Mohanty sent to jail

Bhadrak: Bhadrak JMFC court rejected the bail plea of Bhadrak double murder and rape accused Gopinath Mohanty alias Babua and sent him to judicial custody on Wednesday.

Mohanty was sent to the jail after district police produced him before the court. Before sending him the prison the court recorded statement of the accused under section of 164 CrPC.

The court also recorded the statement of the minor daughter of the deceased couple.

Bhadrak Superintendent of Police (SP) B Gangadhar had yesterday said the accused had planned to eliminate all family members of Rabi Beuria and his wife in order to take Rs 2 lakh in cash and other valuables from their home.

Gangadhar said Gopinath had plans to kill the daughter as well in order to eliminate evidence. However, due to some inconveniences he failed to do so.

The murder had earlier confessed that he killed the couple to take revenge as the duos were allegedly troubling his parents for the last 25 years.

Babua was arrested by Bhadrak Police from near Chandrasekharpur Petrol Pump in the state capital Bhubaneswar. Later, acting upon the information divulged by him the cops managed to recover the body of Rabindra from a nullah located near NH-26 in Dhamnagar area.

Gopinath had pestled Bhaktilata to death with a grinding stone in Talasitha village under Dhamnagar Police Station in Bhadrak on Saturday night. He had escaped from the spot after tying the hands and legs of the deceased’s daughter.
