BezbaroaBhubaneswar/Sambalpur: A day after Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called up his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik and urged not to raze the heritage residence of noted litterateur Lakshminath Bezbaroa, the Sambalpur Collector on Saturday assured that the demolition work would not be undertaken.

Talking to Kalinga TV over the issue,  Sambalpur Collector Samarth Verma informed this afternoon that administration is considering all other available options to carry out the expansion work of the second bridge over river Mahanadi at Kacheri Chhak. He said, an important meeting would be held in this connection tomorrow.

However, Verma maintained that the encroachment in and around Bezbaroa’s house would be removed as per the schedule fixed earlier.

Odisha Government received flak from Bezbaroa Smruti Suraksha Samiti, intellectuals, historians, and litterateurs from both Odisha and Assam after a recent decision to demolish the house of Bezbaroa. The critics emphasized the need of preserving the house rather than demolishing as the stalwart of Assamese literature had composed a majority of his immortal works there.
