Sambalpur: Beware fish lovers in Odisha! The carcinogenic chemical has been detected in two fish samples on Thursday.

The two samples were found in the rohu fish which were collected from Kuluthkani market of the town here.

Following the trace of formalin in the fishes, officials of Food Safety Commission conducted raids at several fish markets in Ainthapali, Budharaja and Govindatala areas and collected samples. The samples will be sent to Bhubaneswar Food Testing Laboratory for examination.

Meanwhile, the finding of the formalin has created panic among the people.

The Odisha Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Director had yesterday informed media that samples of fish collected from various sources and procured from inland fisheries to detect presence of cancer-causing formalin tested negative.

After formalin content was found in Pomfret fish samples in Unit-IV fish market in Bhubaneswar on July 13, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development department had asked the concerned officials to take stock of the fish being sold across the state.
