Cuttack: President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday advised the budding lawyers to be a voice for the voiceless and bring justice to the most deprived persons of the society. Kovind advised the law students, while addressing at the 3rd Foundation Day Lecture of the National Law University (NLU) here.

“You should take a pledge to pay back to the society whenever you start your legal career, a good legal professional not only has a good mind but also a good heart,” added the first citizen of the country.

President Kovind pointed out the loopholes of the current legal system where seeking justice has become expensive and prone to delays, where adjournments are used as tactics to slow down justice rather than used in emergency. It would be a travesty of our republican ethics if a poor person does not get the same access to the law as a rich person. He asked the students to ponder and rectify this in course of their career.

He also remembered Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das on the occasion.

CJI Dipak Misra, Governor SC Jamir, CM Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and HC Chief Justice Vineet Saran were present in the function.

Earlier in the day, President Kovind dedicated the Anand Bhawan, the ancestral house of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, to the people of the country as a museum-cum-centre of learning.

Notably, it is Kovind’s first official visit to the state after his election as President. In his two day visit, he is scheduled to grace several occasions in the state.
