Bhubaneswar:  Odisha fast bowler Basant Mohanty joined the elite club of 300 wickets in first-class cricket, after dismissing  Akhil Herwadkar (14) on the first day of the Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai at KIIT Stadium here on Wednesday.

The rookie baller achieved the feat on his 81st match.

KIIT stadium continues to be a lucky ground for Mohanty as he had taken a hat-trick against Delhi at the same venue two years ago and coincidentally, he had also picked his 100th wicket while playing against Mumbai.

With his 300 wickets haul, Basant Mohanty became the second player from the state to take 300 wickets in first class cricket after Debashish Mohanty.

Mumbai team, which is led by Aditya Tare, has star players like Ajinkya Rahane and Dhawal Sunil Kulkarni and seems to be stronger than Odisha.

However, the presence of many senior and experienced players like Govinda Poddar, Natraj Behera, Biplab Samantray and Basant Mohanty considered to boost the home team.
