Bhubaneswar: Expressing his deep grief over the death of farmer Brunda Sahu of Kalapani village, who committed suicide this morning after torching his paddy filed in Bargarh district yesterday, Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout said that the kin of the farmers will be given compensation as per the relief code of the state.
The Minister also asked the district Collector to submit a report over the suicide of the farmer within 48 hours.
“It is a sensitive issue. I have ordered a probe and directed the Collector to look into the matter. Compensation will be given as per the relief code,” informed Rout.
The Minister also convened an emergency meeting in the wake of farmer Brunda Sahu’s suicide. Agriculture Secretary and other officials of the department were present in the meeting.
Sahu went to the paddy field early this morning and consumed poison there. He was rushed to the Bargarh district headquarters hospital where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment.
Annoyed over the alleged apathetic nature of the district administration, the farmer had torched his paddy field yesterday.
