Barabati T20: Police resort to lathi-charge at ticket counters in Cuttack

Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police in Cuttack today resorted to a lathi-charge at the ticket counter outside the Barabati Stadium.

Thousands of cricket lovers, since last night, had made beelines to purchase the counter tickets for the upcoming second T20 International match between India and South Africa. The match will be played at the Barabati Stadium on June 12.

The Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) had made elaborate arrangements for selling the tickets. It had arranged special counters for the women to avoid any untoward incidents.

However, a scuffle erupted between some women who were standing in the line to purchase the tickets. The police force deployed on the spot tried to pacify them. But when the situation when out of control, cops had to resort to a mild lathi-charge to bring the situation under control.

It is to be noted here that the counter ticket will also be sold tomorrow between 9 AM and 6 PM. The OCA has decided to sell around 12,000 tickets at the counter. Out of the 12,000 tickets, as many as 1,362 are expensive tickets while 10, 731 are gallery tickets. An individual can buy only two tickets by producing his/her identity proof.
