Bapuji Nagar market in Bhubaneswar sealed for violation of social distancing norms

Bhubaneswar:  The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday sealed the Bapuji Nagar Market here for indefinite period of time for not following the social distancing norms during the ongoing nationwide lockdown.

Speaking to media persons, BMC Zonal Deputy Commissioner Anshuman Rath said that the civic body had allowed for opening of shops in Bapuji Nagar from May 4. The shop owners and the people were reminded time and again to strictly adhere to COVID-19 guidelines including maintaining of social distancing norms.

As the shop owners and people continued to flout the guidelines, the civic body has decided to seal the market area for indefinite period, he added.

However, the shops dealing with essential items will remain open in the market, he further said.

The State government has earlier categorized BMC in Khordha district as red zone on the basis of confirmed COVID-19 case and number of patients.

Out of total 437 positive cases in the State, Bhubaneswar has reported 50 positive cases so far. In the State capital city, two persons have lost their lives due to COVID-19 while 37 persons have been recovered from the deadly infection. The number of COVID-19 active cases in the city stood at 11 .
