Bank fraudster ‘fake’ lady teacher arrested by Odisha Crime Branch

Kendrapara: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch arrested a fake lady teacher in connection with a bank fraud case.

The arrested woman has been identified as Annapurna Dash of Patisahi under Garadpur gram panchayat of the district.

An instant case under Section 420, 467, 468, 471, 409, 120 (B) of the IPC was register on the report of General Manager Odisha Gramya Bank, Bhubaneswar in which it was alleged that a fraud had taken place in 2011-2012 in the matter of sanction and disbursement of 148 fake loans under KGB Personal Loan Scheme to the tune of Rs 2.96 cores in its Bilahat Branch of Cuttak district. The loans were sanctioned by submitting forged documents and showing the beneficiaries as teachers of different UP/ME/High School. The accused person joined together in criminal conspiracy for getting such loans sanctioned and disbursed.

Investigation revealed that Dash had availed loans of Rs 2 lakh on August 20, 2011 by producing fake and fraudulent documents showing herself as an Assistant Teacher of Behule UP School in Kendrapara, though she is a housewife.

In this case earlier, 17 accused persons including the then Bank Manger and Field Officer of the said branch were arrested and forwarded to the court. Besides, 74 accused persons have been arrested and released on bail on different dates as per the order of Orissa High Court.

Annapurna is being forwarded to the Court of SDJM, Sadar, Cuttack, said the Crime Branch.
