‘Bande Utkala Janani’ To Be Included In Odisha School Syllabus

Bhubaneswar: ‘Bande Utkala Jajani’ will now be added in the school syllabus of government-run schools in Odisha. It will find a place in the text books of standard 9 and 10.

The approval of adding it to the syllabus has been passed by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. A circular in this regard has been issued by the State Government today.

Bande Utkala Janani got approval as the Odisha state anthem on June 7. The bill has been passed by the State Cabinet meeting held today.

‘Bande Utkala Janani’, penned by Kantakabi Laxmikanta Mohapatra. The song underlines the spirit of indomitable Odisha.

The song ‘Bande Utkala Janani’ means ‘Glory To The Mother Utkala’ in Odia. This song was first recited at the Utkal Sammilani’s Conference at Balasore in 1912.

This song was used as a weapon by the Utkal Sammilani for emancipation of Odisha.
