Khordha: Odisha police have arrested two persons from NH 16 near Kunjuri in connection to the rape of a minor girl in Banapur area in the district.
The arrested persons have been identified as Nimai Palei (22), the prime accused in the case, and his brother Kedar Palei.
Notably, the rape victim, a Class X girl from Suanpadia village, had committed suicide on January 24 for alleged police inaction and not getting justice after she was raped.
The villagers had placed the girl’s body before the police station and blamed police inaction that led to the victim in committing suicide.
Police sources said the minor girl was allegedly raped by Nimai of the same village, while she was on her way to attend nature’s call on December 31 last year.
The girl’s family had lodged a complaint against Nimai at the Banapur police station on January 2.
The incident created a huge public outcry in the state as it happened just two days after the suicide of another minor girl who was allegedly gang raped by a group of men in uniform in Kunduli area of Koraput district on October 10 last year.
